Holi is a Hindu festival. It marks the arrival of spring. It is celebrated on the full moon day in the month of Phalgun. People consider it as the Festival of Colors. The significance attached to it is as the celebration of fertility, color and love and triumph of good versus evil. The festival is celebrated in the most part of India and Nepal.
What is Holika History?
The history backs to the playing/celebrating of the auspicious festival Holi. Demon king Hiranyakashyap demanded everybody of his kingdom to worship him. His son, Prahlad was a devotee of lord Vishnu, on his refusal to worship his father and agreement to worship Lord Vishnu, agitated the king. He(king) plans to murder his son. He asked Holika (King’s sister) to enter a blazing fire when Prahlad is sitting on her lap as she was immune tob fire. Lord Vishnu, shows his miracle, and protected Prahlad and made Holika burn to ashed because of her wicked deed.

What is Holika Sthaphna?
The celebration of Holi is associated to being a secular one.
Holika Dahan takes place the night before colorful Holi. The place where Holika is kept is rinsed with cow-dung and the holy water, Ganges. Idols of Holika and Prahlad are usually made out of cow-dungs are are placed on the top of the heap.
During, Holika Dahan, idol of Prahlad is taken out. Holiak pile is decorated with shields, swords, sun, moon, stars and other toys, all are made of cow-dung. Wood and dung-cakes are burned in the symbolic pyre. This signifies the good winning over evil. According to the Hindu veda, God vishnu burns the devil, Holika to death.
What are the Holi Puja Samagri?
Here is the list of puja samagri which will be used during Holi puja:
- Ghee Lamp
- Agarbatti and Dhoopbatti for fragrance
- Beads made of cow dung
- One Glass Water
How to Do Holi Puja (Holi Puja Vidhi)
- All the puja ingredients should be assembled. keep a water pot along. Puja must be done facing north or east direction.
- Take some amount of water, rice, flower and money in the right hand and recite the mantra.
- Lord Ganesha must be remembered with mantra associated to him.
- Then, goddess Ambika must be praised., along with Lord Narasimha, devotee Prahlad.
- Chant all the required mantras.
- After all the rituals, Holika is burnt.
- After this, all the men must apply roli and take blessings from the elders.
Next, day the ashes must be smeared on the body. These ashes are considered pious. It is also believed that this ash purifies the body and soul.
